Motorcycle Eyewear

Which one is the right thing for you ?

As a motorcyclist, motorcycle eyewear is something that is definitely making our riding an enjoyable one. For those who were not prescribed to wear any glasses may find themselves have a plenty of options. They can opt for goggles, polarizing sunglasses, photochromic motorcycle sunglasses or even the stylist normal sunglasses.  Unlike those who were prescribed,  any motorcycle eyewear they choose must be in line with the prescription.  They could be just be limited to clear motorcycle glasses with clip on that could be either just a dark clip on or a polarized clip on.

I was in the same dilemma when I started riding my motorcycle 20 years ago. However, since I am wearing prescription glass, here are my recommended comparisons for motorcycle eyewear.

Clear motorcycle glasses with polarized clip on. Polarized glass was initially the favorite for fishermen and boaters since they have to deal with a lot of glares. However, it became popular to drivers and motorcyclist like us since we are also dealing with the same challenge be it during summer or winter. As long as we are doing outdoor activities, polarized glasses seem to be a must now a day. Either polarized glasses or clip on will cut the glare by cutting the horizontal reflection from surfaces. Eversince I learned this in my physic subject in school, it became my favourite.

Prescription motorcycle goggles will only be used if your helmet is not a full face type. With full face helmets, goggle is not practical at all. I will recommend this when you are riding off road to protect your eyes from dust. I had never used goggle other than this purpose since is not enjoyable.

Photochromic motorcycle sunglasses, yes I had a pair before and those were my first and also my last. Why ? When I was fishing from sunrise until the late afternoon, I had never realised that day brightness had changed until I took out my glass. The look was very comforting indeed, but later I found out that my eyes were getting lazy in adopting any changes in brightness when I was wearing my non photochromic glasses. My eyes got tired very easily. Soon enough  I started to forget those pair.

I must emphasize that the above judgement is based on my personal experience for being prescription glasses wearer and a motorcyclist at the same time for more than 20 years backed up by understanding in technical field. Feel  free to chip in ideas or opinion since this web is to share so that we get the best for being motorcycle riders ourselves.
